Around mid-December, Swedish carmaker Volvo trucks presented the first photos of a fully electrified truck destined for the North American market. It's called Volvo VNR Electric and the carmaker will show it in California this year. Sales will then start next year.

The Volvo VNR Electric will be based on exactly the same principle as the current electric truck model for Europe, the Volvo FE Electric. The carmaker introduced it last May and will start selling it this year.

The technical specification has not yet been revealed

For the time being, Volvo Trucks management keeps the full technical details such as engine power or the range of the Volvo VNR Electric. However, they will probably not be much different from Volvo FE Electric, which promises up to 370 kW / 850 Nm and a range of 200 km.

Green has green

The VNR Electric truck is intended for urban and regional distribution over short distances. Its huge advantage lies in the ecological propulsion system: As it operates quieter than trucks with internal combustion engines and, unlike them, does not emit any pollutants into the air, it will be able to hit the roads even at night or early in the morning.

Volvo VNR Electric is basically the result of a partnership project known as LIGHTS (greener freight project). The Volvo Group, the California Air Quality Agency and industry leaders in transportation and electrical infrastructure, is collaborating on the project. They were even rewarded with $ 44,8 for the Volvo LIGHTS project.
